Overview

Assistant Tool 1 lives up to its unusual name and is another extremely useful accessory from the Manpa team. It consists of two extensions, 6“(150mm) and 3-1/2” (90mm) long, both of which are the usual high quality, lightweight and strong accessories we expect from Manpa. It adds a whole new dimension to sanding and is excellent for sanding inside, outside and around curved surfaces, hollow sockets, pockets, deep vessels and irregular shapes.

Each is used individually in several ways and combinations on angle grinders and power drills. They extend sanding distances from 3-1/2” (90mm) to 12-3/8” (315mm) away from the business end of the power unit. Both extensions have an M10 thread for which the Special Adaptor (purchased separately) is first required to screw to the power source.

SUGGESTED COMBINATIONS

Directly on Angle Grinder. Variable Speed Control Is Highly Recommended

1. Using the 5/8" Special Adapter

• Female end tightens directly onto the threaded center shaft of your 4-1/2” angle grinder
• Male end is secured onto either of the long or short Assistant Tool.
  The 2" Sanding Flex with its cushion pad using 3” and 4” hook and loop sandpaper, is a fantastic accessory that screws directly on either Assistant Tool 1
• You can also add market available cloth and sand paper accessories as shown in the diagrams below. Your extended length will be either 3-1/2” (90mm) or 6“(150mm).

2. Using the 5/8" special adapter and Sanding Tool MP21-12

• Adapter’s female end tightens directly onto the threaded center shaft of your 4-1/2” angle grinder,
• Male end screws into the Sanding Tool
• Long or short Assistant Tool is then screwed into the Sanding Tool, and
• when tightened, your sanding extensions will be either 8-1/4” (210mm) or 10-3/4” (273mm).

3. Using the 5/8 special adapter and Multi Extension Shaft MP21-28

• Adapter’s female end tightens directly onto the threaded center shaft of your 4-1/2” angle grinder,
• Male end screws into the Multi Extension Shaft
• Long or short Assistant Tool is then screwed into the Multi Extension Shaft, and
• When tightened, your sanding extensions will be either 10-1/16” (255mm) or 12-3/8” (315mm).

On Battery or Electric Drill

Securing the Multi Extension Shaft with its 8mm shank to the drill chuck, then attaching either of the Assistant Tools and your choice of sanding accessory, lengthens your reach by 10-1/16” (255mm or 12-3/8” (315mm).

4. Using the 5/8 special adapter and the MCAT Extension 

• Adapter’s female end tightens directly onto the threaded center shaft of your 4-1/2” anglegrinder,
• Male end screws into theMCATExtension
• Long orShort Assistant Tool is then screwed into theMCATExtension, and
• When tightened, your sanding extensions will be either7-1/8” or 10-1/8”.

RECOMMENDED USES

Using Assistant Tool 1 for Flap Sanding: We highly recommend cloth backed sandpaper versus paper backed sandpaper. It is a better quality, lasts longer and is more flexible. The squares can be anywhere between 2” and 6” (50mm - 150mm) and applies to any grit sandpaper. This simple process means you can easily make your own flap sander in any grit and ensures sandpaper is exposed on both sides.

Using Assistant Tool 1 with Cushion Pad and Sandpaper: Manpa highly recommend using cushion pads using sandpaper. The affordable and most efficient accessory is the 2” Sanding Flex which simply screws into the top of either short or long Assistant Tool 1. This cushioned pad has a hook and loop surface to which you can attach sandpaper with the same size or ½” (12mm) oversize MP21-R-3SP80 and MP21-R3SP220. You can also attach a myriad of market available hook and loop sandpaper styles and grits.
