MINI SHAFTS

What is it?

The Manpa Tools Mini Shaft Series is a set of small, high-speed cutting tools designed by Manpa and used by South Korean chainsaw, bonsai and ice carvers but also does intricate woodworking tasks. They come in three sizes, each with a myriad of uses.

1. Mini Shaft 1/8" Shank (MP21-24-MSD):

  • Size: It is 1-11/16” long and is the smallest of the series, with a 1/8" shank and 3/16” cutting head.
  • Use: Ideal for Dremel™, Micromot™ and similar style small rotary tools.
  • Tasks: In addition to the above tested applications, also perfect for mini carving, making spoons, texturing, wood letters and creating interestingly new designs.

 2. Mini Shaft Short 1/4" Shank (MP21-24-MSS):

  • Size: At 1-11/16” long, it is the shorter of the two 1/4" shank options with a 3/16” cutting head.
  • Use: Fits various straight die grinders (air, electric or battery-powered).
  • Tasks: In addition to the above tested applications, use also for mini carving, texturing, rapidly drilling and enlarging small holes.

 3. Mini Shaft Long 1/4" Shank (MP21-24-MSL):

  • Size: At 2-5/16” long, it is the longer of the two 1/4" shank options with a 3/16” cutting head.
  • Use: Fits various straight die grinders (air, electric or battery-powered).
  • Tasks: In addition to above tested applications, also excellent for detail carving, texturing, and rapidly drilling and enlarging small holes.

Key Features:

  • High-Speed Operation: Designed for high RPMs (20,000-30,000 RPM) for precision work.
  • Tungsten Carbide Cutting Head: Durable and efficient cutting.
  • Push/Pull Motion: Effective technique for controlled carving and cutting.
  • Versatile Applications: Ideal for a wide range of woodworking tasks, including carving, texturing, drilling and shaping.
  • Little to no kickback: Easily controllable compared to similar shank types, with low potential for damage. The micro carbide cutter is designed and tested to react minimally to kickback, cutting through – not kicking back, in material.

 Important Note:

  • Avoid Incompatible Tools: Do not use these mini shafts with flexible shafts, drill chucks, multi-chucks, or angle grinders with collet extensions.
  • Use Correct Collets: Always use the correct size collet for each mini shaft to ensure safety and optimal performance.

By understanding these key points, you can effectively use the Manpa Tools Mini Shaft Series to elevate your woodworking projects.
