About Guinevere

GUINEVERE

what is Guinevere?

King Arthur’s Tools is proud to bring you a complete miniature sanding and polishing system - without equal! Invented by a fine furniture maker from the Kirjes region in Sweden and building on the knowledge that pneumatic or inflatable sanders achieve fast, gentle and smooth sanding, he and his son developed not only the inflatable sanders under a patented design but also a complete well balanced, sanding and polishing system suitable for wood, metal, plastic, bone and horn. King Arthur’s Tools now holds the exclusive rights to the rebranding and distribution of this incredible system as Guinevere®, bringing it into the family of medieval names for its products.

Simply stated, Guinevere® conforms to the shape of your work, whether concave, convex or flat. This patented system is ideal for difficult profiles, finishing small to medium carvings, boxes, bowls, musical instruments, duck decoys, walking sticks, fine furniture, toys, spoons, 3D-intarsia, taxidermy and a myriad of other DIY applications. This system will change the way you think about sanding and polishing forever!

It is, with out doubt, the most revolutionary sanding system to come out in years. Guinevere® uses five inflatable rubber sanders in which all three (3) drum sanders are available with four (4) sanding sleeves, from coarse to extra fine, fitted either to a flexible shaft or the quiet 1⁄2 HP (300 watt) motor. The small and standard round sanders have three (3) replacement sleeves in replacement kits. All inflatable sanders are ruggedly built from Swedish steel and heavy rubber. Both the extremely small and larger round shaped sanders are also particularly well suited for round, curved, bulging or cup-formed shapes. The small, long and standard drum sanders are great for putting the finishing touches on long and wide to medium and small flat and curved surfaces. From the quiet yet powerful motor to the complete range of long lasting custom made sanding and cloth sleeves, Guinevere® ensures complete control over the sanding process. And the sleeves are reusable by using a cleaning stick. This system easily eliminates your laborious hand sanding process, saving you countless hours of sanding while putting a beautiful, silky smooth finish on your masterpieces. You will actually enjoy this sanding experience.

USES:  Guinevere® is a complete sanding system. Simply defined, it conforms to the shape of your work, whether concave, convex or flat. This patented system is ideal for difficult profiles, finishing small to medium carvings, boxes, bowls, musical instruments, duck decoys, walking sticks, fine furniture, toys, spoons, 3D-intarsia, taxidermy and a myriad of other DIY applications. Both the extremely small and larger round shaped sanders are also particularly well suited for round, curved, bulging or cup-formed shapes. The small, long and drum sanders are great for putting the finishing touches on small to medium flat surfaces.

INFLATABLE SANDERS: The Guinevere® Inflatable Sanders are gently pumped up through an air inlet in the drive shaft located in the bottom of each sander. The air valve design leaves the bottom flat without a clumsy protruding valve on the sanders. This patented solution made it possible to make superior cylindrical drum sanders as well as the extremely small and regular round sander, both of which have dome shapes at the business end. On each drum, the molded rubber bulb constantly flexes and changes shape, making the sanders soft all the way to the edge. Guinevere® eliminates scratches and allows you to apply the sander's total width against the work piece or to use only the edge in all kinds of complex sanding. The sander actually becomes flat when pressed against a flat surface and round or contoured when pressed against a round surface i.e. the sanders conform to the underlying surface. Consequently the sanders should be filled with very little air.

A TREASURE OF NATURAL BEAUTY WITHIN THE WOOD: Underneath all that wood, often deep in the grain, waiting for you to reveal its natural beauty- lies the treasure within! And in every creation made from wood it really is there, that beautiful silky smooth surface, even though it might still be concealed from the human eye. What can bring this feeling and beauty to the world? ! Only with Guinevere® can you touch wood and experience a smoothness and velvet touch that is truly unique, revealing its natural beauty, structure and colors. It's a "Wow" feeling. Using Guinevere® isn't just about sanding - it's a rewarding journey every time. The final velvet wooden surface also protects the wood from dirt and moisture, minimizing application of finishing substances such as liquid finishes, fillers, oils, stains and waxes.

What Can Guinevere do?

Freehand Sanding

When you’re sanding, very fine wood fibers are forced down in the direction of the sander’s rotation (to the right). Here’s the tip – For your final sanding, if you sand for just a few seconds in the opposite direction, it will pull those fibers back up and remove them for that perfect tight-grain finish. This can be achieved by rotating the item you are sanding half a rotation (either to the left or right) and continue as described above.

During normal sanding, with the inflatable sander in the flex shaft, attached to the Guinevere® Sanding Motor, you will progress through the grit sizes and gently make contact with the wood using your desired grit sanding sleeve on the inflatable sander. For your final step, however, rotate the work piece half a rotation and sand for a few seconds using the 320-grit sleeve. This tip is extremely useful for final sanding on objects like spoon handles, bowls, ladles, knife handles, gunstocks and small art pieces where finish is important.

Power Sanding on a Lathe with Guinevere

One of the advantages of the Guinevere® Sanding System is its versatility and flexibility. Power sanding your turned piece while on the lathe saves time and protects your fingers from injury. Run your lathe at about 500 rpms. With the inflatable sander in the flex shaft, attached to the Guinevere® Sanding Motor, gently make contact with the wood with the desired grit sanding sleeve on the inflatable sander. This will reduce your sanding time and quickly remove any tool marks. For your final sanding with the 320-grit sleeve, repeat the steps above, and if your lathe has a reverse setting, sand in reverse for just a minute to remove any fine wood fibers left on the surface.
